Voice and String Ensemble piece for "Quiet Music Festival", Cork Ireland. "Sema" is a Persian word that means 'pure hearing'. The term is used by various Sufi orders in reference to prayer, song, dance, and other ritualistic activities. Sema dancing is known as the dance of the Whirling Dervishes. The piece utilizes a form developed in collaboration with composer and contrabassist Mark Dresser, uniting music palettes translated from metaphors with the gestural language Soundpainting as a processor indicating parameters for improvisation.
